Humana won contracts to cover Ohio and South Carolina Medicaid beneficiaries in 2021, with coverage beginning in 2022. With the insurer pursuing care management of Medicaid beneficiaries and dual eligibles, Humana may pursue expansion into other states where Medicaid programs open contracts for bidding. Also, look for Humana to add more counties to its Medicare coverage area in multiple states. With Medicare enrollment expected to approach 80 million by 2030, insurers with large Medicare Advantage segments will look to take advantage of this growth. From 2021 through 2022, Humana could enroll as many as one million additional lives in Medicare Advantage plans.
